Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc. (Southern) is the single largest distributor of wine and spirits in the United States. From humble beginnings in Miami, Southern’s footprint now extends from South Florida to Seattle and from Maui to Maine. Southern has worked relentlessly to establish and enhance its reputation for outstanding, value-added supplier and customer service.

The foundation of Southern’s reputation is the quality of its people. Harvey R. Chaplin, Chairman and CEO of Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc., says, “The key to our growth is that we have always had the best people. They know the local market because they live and work there.” In fact, the Company is widely regarded in the US drinks industry as possessing a highly-talented and stable management team—both at the national and divisional levels.

Over the past 45 years, Southern has pursued a determined strategy of enhanced service offerings for the success of its brand owners and retail customers. This approach has, in turn, enabled unparalleled internal and acquisition-based growth and expansion.  As Harvey Chaplin asserts, ‘We are not the best because we are the biggest; we are the biggest because we are the best.”

The multi-state distributor currently operates in the following 35 markets:

Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Kentucky, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming. Southern also holds operating licenses and permits in Nebraska and Texas.

On a national basis, Southern employs nearly 14,500 team members. Southern urges all retail customers and adult consumers to market, sell, serve and enjoy its products responsibly. For more information about Southern and its responsible consumption program, see:
